Retro Runway Fashion

Julie Page opened Retro Runway Fashion as a used clothing store in 1997, and its been going strong ever since. According to Julie, the store started out as a business plan for a project during an entrepreneurship course she took at Acadia’s centre for small business. Her inspiration came from a few things; a love of clothing and a wish to own and operate her own business, all tied together with a background of growing up going to used clothing stores with her mother. Overtime Julie incorporated alterations into her business model as well.

Though Julie doesn’t have any additional sustainability initiatives through her business, the argument can be made that in addition to a small business, her entire store is a sustainability initiative. To start, the clothing Julie sources is all clothing which would otherwise end up in a landfill, which she finds either locally, or through a large-scale supplier she uses. Even the clothes which don’t sell end up being reused in her sewing projects or donated to charity.
